Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers Review
Reading Level: Young Adult
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
Source: Conference
First book in His Fair Assasin series
Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?
Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.
Ismae’s most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?
Review
The more historical fiction I read the more I love it. Each one is so unique. What I love most is the worlds. These authors take a time period and create this amazing new world. I think this book is just amazing. I never wanted to put it down. The characters and plot were just that good. I can't believe I waited so long to read this book.
I loved Ismae so much. She was an amazing heroine. Shes so strong. I like how she was willing to break the rules for something she believed was right or wrong. She never gave up on her faith but she tried to do what was right. I love how fierce she is. She could take any man or play any role. Ismae is such a well done character. I love Duvall so much. I like the humor side of him. I liked how serious he was about his family. He always took his role very seriously. I loved how there was no insta love. They hated each other then they grew into something else. This book had such amazing secondary characters. Each character had their own little part to play. All the characters were very well cone. I hope to see some of them in future books.
This has such a unique storyline. I love that Ismae was a handmaiden to Death. That made for such a cool setting and story. Also Ismae had some pretty badass talents. I loved all the twists. I could never guess what was going to happen. It never stopped surprising me. that also made this impossible to put down. Overall this was such an amazing read. I had high expectations because this is a very popular book. It blew my expectations out of the water. I can't wait to see what this author writes next. I highly recommend this one. 5/5 stars
