Review: Half-blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Half-Blood (Covenant, #1)
Reading Level: Young Adult
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
First book in the Covenant series

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

As I've said before I absolutely love Greek mythology I love reading more about it and I love how each book I read is about a different myth. Half-blood was different than others because it actually wasn't really based around a certain myth it was about the Covenant and pures and half-bloods and something I've never heard of before in Greek mythology: daimons.
I loved how the action started literally on the first page and didn't stop the plot was never slow or boring. Alex was hilarious and I felt really bad for what she had to go through with her mom but she was still strong. I loved all the training it was funny and her trainer helped with that. I loved Aiden he was so sweet and obviously hot and he's a reader :) Seth annoyed me I'm not a big fan of the whole perfect other half made for each other don't have a choice thing. I'm not trying to give anything away but it's kind of obvious that Aiden and Alex are super cute. I loved them together and that one part with them near the end at the hospital (if you've read this you know what I'm talking about) killed me. I just wanted them to say screw the rules and I don't know run away together. But sadly that's not what happened and I wanted to throw the book (in a good way of course) but I had to know what happened. Overall this book was hilarious and exciting and I've said love a lot in this review but I really loved it. I don't know if I can wait until April for Pure to come out but I really want to read Jennifers other book Obsidian so hopefully that will help.

  1. Although they make me greedy for more, I enjoy books that end on a cliffhanger, so I loved that every chapter in Half-Blood ended so suspenseful, upping the stakes that much more each time. Jennifer L. Armentrout takes Greek mythology and puts her own twist on it, making it unique. It was a great change from the usual supernatural reads. I really think Half-Blood is going to stand out among the throngs of paranormal books. It's a captivating, action packed and unpredictable story with compelling characters that kept me turning the pages, gasping and sighing with emotion until the end. I've found my new favourite series.
