Days of Blood and Starlight by LainiTaylor Review

Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #2)
Reading Level: Young Adult
Publisher: Little Brown
Source: Borrowed
Second book in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series
Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a world free of bloodshed and war.
This is not that world.

Art student and monster's apprentice Karou finally has the answers she has always sought. She knows who she is—and what she is. But with this knowledge comes another truth she would give anything to undo: She loved the enemy and he betrayed her, and a world suffered for it.
In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Karou must decide how far she'll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, secrets and impossible choices, Days of Blood & Starlight finds Karou and Akiva on opposing sides as an age-old war stirs back to life.
While Karou and her allies build a monstrous army in a land of dust and starlight, Akiva wages a different sort of battle: a battle for redemption. For hope.
But can any hope be salvaged from the ashes of their broken dream?

Review
Laini Taylor never ceases to amaze me. Here I was thinking Daughter of the Smoke and Bone was so amazing and how could it get better than that? Throw that right out the window and across the street. This book was absolutely fantastic. It was such an amazing sequel. The wait for this one was killer and this made it worth it. It was such a good addition to the series.

I didn't reread the first book before starting this one. I don't remember much so I don't have much to compare too. Karou seemed pretty different in this. She was having a tough time. She seemed very confused. It seemed like she had somewhat given up. I didn't enjoy her character as much as I remember enjoying her in the first one. She was like a whole new person. But I can understand why she was she was she was. She needed to toughen up to survive. Akiva also seemed like he had given up. He seemed very tortured. It was really sad to see. I felt bad for him. He's my favorite. I was proud of him for trying take a difference though. There was on,y one thing that bothered me about this book. I missed the cuteness between Akiva and Karou. They were so cute in the first book and I want them to get back to that. I absolutely adored Zuzanna. She's the best. I'm glad she had us h a huge part to play. I really enjoyed reading from her point of view. Her and Mik gave me the cuteness I needed so badly. I swear all these characters are so well done. Their amazing!

You know what I want to know, how does Laini Taylor come up with this stuff. The creativity never ends. The storyline was incredibly unique and exciting. I read this in like five hours because I couldn't put it down(and it's a pretty big book). The suspense was killer and the action was great. The setting was fantabulous. I loved getting to read about the Chimeras and the Angels. That was such a cool aspect. I liked the glimpses into the past. I feel like I really got to learn so many things from this. I loved it. I understand so much more now. Overall this was the most amazing read. I had to wait forever for this to come out and it didn't disappoint. The wait for the third book shall be awful. If you haven't read this series, you have to. It's one of those hunt you down, throw it at your face, and force oh books. Save me the trouble!

  1. I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone! I need to get my hands on this one, like, now. Aww, bummer. No Karou-Akiva cuteness? However, I greatly enjoyed Zuzanna in the first book. All I remember was her when she first met Akiva saying that she wanted to have his babies or something...? Hehhh...yeah. She made an impression on me.
(And, Jasmine, do I see you reading Book of Blood and Shadow?!? Such a great book!)
    Cheers!

    1. I think everyone is a little sad that there isn't any Karou Akiva cuteness. Hopefully this just means their gonna be really adorable in the third book ;). I actually didn't enjoy book of Blood and Shadow very much :(. I'm not even reviewing it because my feelings were so conflicted!

  2. Ooh, I had no idea that part of this would be from Zuzana's POV! I remember that I adored her in the first book, so it's great to know she'll have a big role to play in this one. I'm sure her and Mik will be able to provide the cuteness, although I'm a little disappointed that Karou and Akiva won't be able to provide it!

I also don't even know how Laini Taylor comes up with this stuff! It's so utterly original and unique, and I can't believe she came up with all of this on her own. I haven't even read anything remotely like this series.

Fantastic review Jasmine! I'm glad you loved this one so much. =)

    1. Thanks Aneeqah! Zuzana is fantastic! I think you will really enjoy reading from her POV :). Plus we all need a little cuteness in our lives even if its not Karou and Akiva. Thanks for leaving a comment <3
