Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
•Grab your current read
•Open to a random page
•Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
•BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
•Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My teaser this week is from 13 To Life by Shannon Delany

13 to Life (13 to Life #1)
Everything about Jessie Gillmansen’s life changed when her mother died. Now even her hometown of Junction is changing. Mysterious dark things are happening. All Jessie wants is to avoid more change. But showing a hot new guy around Junction High, she’s about to discover a whole new type of change. Pietr Rusakova is more than good looks and a fascinating accent—he’s a guy with a dangerous secret. And his very existence is sure to bring big trouble to Jessie’s small town.
It seems change is the one thing Jessie can’t avoid.

Teaser:
"This is 911. What is the nature of your emergency?" "Car crash at the parking lot by Fifth and Main," I panted.

I cut that one a little short. Sorry! I also closed the book before checking the page number. But this is from a page in my paperback copy.

Dash and Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Leviathan

Dash & Lily's Book of Dares

Reading Level: Young Adult
Publisher:  Knopf Books for Young Readers
Source: Bought
Stand Alone
“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”
So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the bestselling authors of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?
Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

Review
I haven't read anything by either of these authors. I've wanted to read Every Day by David Leviathan since it came out. Also Beta by Rachel Cohn looks great too. I've had this one for awhile. It sounded like a super cute, easy read. It was a little hard for me to get into. The beginning was hard to keep track of. Once it picked up though I found myself really enjoying it. I read it in about four hours. I loved the storyline and the characters.

I absolutely adored Dash and Lily. I loved that they both were kinda loners. They both had amazing personalities. That red notebook idea was pure geniuses. I loved the way their stories connected. I loved how cute they were. Even if it was only for a little while. I loved the crazy adventures they dared each other to go on. I liked that they weren't what each other were expecting. I liked that they didn't judge each other for their background. They were some very well done characters. I loved reading their story.

What a unique story. I wonder how these authors even came up with some of this stuff. Those dares were the best thing ever. I was laughing pretty much the whole time I was reading. It was so creative. Once I got into the story I couldn't put it down. This was such a fun, easy read. Overall I'm so glad I read this one. I enjoyed it so much. It was a perfect before Christmas read. I can't wait to see what else these authors come up with. If you haven't read this one you definitely should. Especially if you like dares ;).

Michelle Hodkin Signing!

Yay a signing! It's been forever since there was an event in Texas. We were super excited to find out that Michelle Hodkin was coming here. The event was amazing. It was held at the Irving Public Library. There was tons of bloggers there. It was great to catch up and we even made some new friends. We took some pretty awesome pictures. We even have a giveaway for you guys!

Michelle reading from The Unbecoming. She had the coolest slide show with pictures from the actual abandoned insane asylum from the books. The pictures were so scary and when she was done talking one was left on the screen and for the rest of the signing I (Marissa) kept looking over my shoulder expecting something to pop out. She also told us the story behind Mara Dyer.

Jasmine's haul :). The buttons are adorable.

Embedded image permalink
Marissa's signed copy of The Evolution of Mara Dyer. She asked who our favorite character was and then left a quote from them. Marissa's was Noah of course. The silver sharpie had to be included because she gave it to me (!!!) after I mentioned that I loved my silver sharpie so much it was out of ink. One of the best signing moments ever.

Marissa also got a really cute bookplate from 'Noah's library'. It's so cool when authors have stuff like this.

Jasmine's signed copies of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and The Evolution of Mara Dyer. She even wrote Happy Birthday for me and gave both of us hugs and told us how cute we were.

Us with Michelle Hodkin. She is one of the nicest authors in the world. You can tell she loves her job. She told stories about her job as a lawyer, all her author friends, and her family. The signing was a really amazing experience and a reminder how much fun reading a book and then getting to meet the author of it is. We hope she comes back again :).

Now for the giveaway!

Waiting on Wednesday: Star Cursed by Jessica Spotswood

****"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event hosted by Jill at the Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.****

My pick for this week is:
Star Cursed (The Cahill Witch Chronicles #2)
Star Cursed by Jessica Spotswood
Expected release date: June 18th, 2013
from Putnam Juvenile
With the Brotherhood persecuting witches like never before, a divided Sisterhood desperately needs Cate to come into her Prophesied powers. And after Cate's friend Sachi is arrested for using magic, a war-thirsty Sister offers to help her find answers—if Cate is willing to endanger everyone she loves.

Cate doesn't want to be a weapon, and she doesn't want to involve her friends and Finn in the Sisterhood's schemes. But when Maura and Tess join the Sisterhood, Maura makes it clear that she'll do whatever it takes to lead the witches to victory. Even if it means sacrifices. Even if it means overthrowing Cate. Even if it means all-out war.

In the highly anticipated sequel to Born Wicked, the Cahill Witch Chronicles continue Cate, Maura and Tess's quest to find love, protect family, and explore their magic against all odds in an alternate history of New England.
I absolutely loved the first book in this series, Born Wicked. There was witches, an alternate historical setting thing going on and plenty of romance. So I'm very excited to read this and see where the story takes Cate and her sisters and the lovely, bookish Finn, who I miss very much :). And can I just say that cover is gorgeous. It definitely goes with the blog.

Teaser Tuesday #26

My teaser this week is from Elixir by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Elixir (Covenant, #3.5)

Aiden St. Delphi will do anything to save Alex.
Even if it means doing the one thing he will never forgive himself for.
Even if it means making war against the gods.
 Here's my teaser:
"I went down the stairs, detached as I could be. Knowing what I was about to take part in darkened my soul." -Page 37 of my pdf copy, which you can get here. But please, please, please read Deity first.

Those two sentences pretty much sum up the feel of the book. It's depressing at times. I really love reading from Aidens perspective though and I loved how determined he was. My wounds from Deity were fresh but there's still hope for Apollyon. *Spoilers ahead* I really hope Alex is herself again not just for Aiden but also because I think she is an amazing heroine and I'll miss her snark.

(I won't be writing a review for this because it is so short but that is basically what I felt)

Review
This book would make the most amazing movie. It focuses on some real every day problems in nowadays teenage world. I think this is one of those books people just need to read. I took so much from it. I have no doubt others will too. It was a super great read.

Hannah was a great main character. I really liked her. It was easy to relate to her. I loved how she really made an impact on the world around her. I loved how strong she was. I loved that she could accept anyone even people she never saw herself associating with. She was genuinely a good person. There was tons of secondary characters. I really liked how people Hannah never thought she would be friends with we're better friends to her than her best friends. You don't have to be exactly like someone to get along with them. For the most part Hannah was the bigger person. She had a little but of a downfall but she got back up there. I liked how all the Stilettos became good friends with Hannah. I liked the tension between characters. All the characters were very well done and I enjoyed reading about them.

I think one of the best parts of this book was how relatable it was. I think it's perfect for teenagers. I loved the storyline. It was pretty fast paced. The characters were great. I've never really read a book that I could compare to the world around me. Everything was so well done. I wasn't sure what to expect when starting this one. It surprised me. I found it impossible to put down. I had to know where the story was going to go. Overall I'm so glad I got the chance to read this one. I really enjoyed it. I highly recommend this one, I think a lot can be taken from it.

Waiting on Wednesday: Sever by Lauren DeStefano

****"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event hosted by Jill at the Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.****

My pick for this week is:
Sever (The Chemical Garden, #3)
Sever by Lauren DeStefano
Expected publication: February 12th 2013 by Simon & Schuster
Time is running out for Rhine in this conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Chemical Garden Trilogy.
With the clock ticking until the virus takes its toll, Rhine is desperate for answers. After enduring Vaughn’s worst, Rhine finds an unlikely ally in his brother, an eccentric inventor named Reed. She takes refuge in his dilapidated house, though the people she left behind refuse to stay in the past. While Gabriel haunts Rhine’s memories, Cecily is determined to be at Rhine’s side, even if Linden’s feelings are still caught between them.
Meanwhile, Rowan’s growing involvement in an underground resistance compels Rhine to reach him before he does something that cannot be undone. But what she discovers along the way has alarming implications for her future—and about the past her parents never had the chance to explain.
In this breathtaking conclusion to Lauren DeStefano’s Chemical Garden trilogy, everything Rhine knows to be true will be irrevocably shattered

Lets take a second to admire the prettiness of that cover. Its beautiful. I'm surprised we haven't done this one already. This is the last book in the Chemical Garden series. The Chemical Garden series is one of my absolute favorites. Its an amazing series. I'm so sad its ending. The wait for Sever has been killer. We're almost at the finish line. I can't wait to see how this series ends. If you haven't read this series I highly, highly recommend!
