Waiting on Wednesday: Sister's Fate by Jessica Spotswood

****"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event hosted by Jill at the Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.****

My pick this week is:
Sisters' Fate (The Cahill Witch Chronicles, #3)
Sister's Fate by Jessica Spotswood
Expected publication: August 14th 2014 by Putnam Juvenile
A fever ravages New London, but with the Brotherhood sending suspected witches straight to the gallows, the Sisters are powerless against the disease. They can’t help without revealing their powers—as Cate learns when a potent display of magic turns her into the most wanted witch in all of New England.
To make matters worse, Cate has been erased from the memory of her beloved Finn. While she’s torn between protecting him from further attacks and encouraging him to fall for her all over again, she’s certain she can never forgive Maura’s betrayal. And now that Tess’s visions have taken a deadly turn, the prophecy that one Cahill sister will murder another looms ever closer to its fulfillment.

This is probably my favorite witch series! Not only is there lots and lots of magic, it's also historical fiction. Two of my favorite things! This series always has cliffhanger endings. The second book tore my heart out. The wait for this pretty has already been torture and we still have awhile to wait. August can't come fast enough!

What are you guys waiting on this week? Let me know in the comments!

Shiloh by Helena Sorensen Review

Shiloh
Reading Level: Young Adult
Publisher: Alpha Wolf Publishing
Source: Author
Stand Alone
*This was gifted to my by author for review*
In a world of perpetual darkness, a boy is born who wields remarkable power over fire. Amos is no more than seven when he kills a Shadow Wolf and becomes a legend in Shiloh. He would be destined for great things were it not for the stories his father tells about a world beyond the Shadow and a time before the Shadow. Only madmen hold to such tales, and in Shiloh, they have always come to bad ends.

Amos is fearless. He walks with easy confidence, certain that the Shadow cannot touch him. Even his family is in awe of him. His father marvels at his skill with the bow, his mother thanks the gods that he has all the courage she lacks, and his sister, Phebe, worships him for saving her from an attack of the Shadow Cats.

On a trip to the village of Emmerich, Amos rescues the Magistrate’s son, Simeon, from the village bullies. Simeon, fair-skinned and pale-eyed like other Dreamers in Shiloh’s history, becomes Amos’s constant companion and dearest friend. Simeon becomes a part of Amos’s family, listening to fireside stories told in a way he’s never heard them before and learning to wield a bow and arrow.

The year the boys turn twelve, they are itching to prove themselves. An impetuous plan to steal a beautiful lantern goes miserably awry, and the lantern’s owner prophecies that Amos will be devoured by the Shadow. For the first time, a seed of fear is planted in Amos’s mind, and when his father is killed by a Shadow Wolf on the last day of the Great Hunt, the fear takes hold. If so great and brave a man as his father could fall to the Shadow, what hope has he?

Review
This was a little on and off for me. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either.

This tells the story of Amos, Simeon, and Phebe. Amos is a legend. He wields the power of fire and is quite fearless. Simeon was just an average kid until he and Amos became friends. Phebe is Amos's little sister and has a voice that could change the world. As they grow older. their lives change in unexpected ways.

So the characters lacked a little for me. Amos didn't really play as big of a role as I expected. I didn't feel like we ever really got to know him. He was pretty complex and I wished we had seen more of him. Phebe was great! She was all alone but she never gave up. Simeon was honestly the only character I felt like we got to really know. I really enjoyed him. He was super caring and sweet. He was always there for Phebe and Amos. If we had gotten the chance to really know these characters I think I would have enjoyed it more.

This was a very complex story. Almost too complex. The world building and the way things worked was hard to follow. It was all over the place. the concept was pretty good. There was a fair share of action. I did kinda have to push to get through it. This story may have been just okay for me. I think it had great potential!

Character Love #1: Christina from the Divergent series

Displaying PicsArt_1389406414551.jpg
Character Love is a meme that we came up with.
It's a way to talk about your favorite fictional characters, big and small.
If you want to join us in showing the love feel free. Just say who the character
is, what book they're from, and a little about why you love them.
You can even include fan art or casting of them or some of your favorite
quotes from them. Have fun!

My pick this week is Christina from the Divergent series by Veronica Roth

Zoe Kravitz is playing Christina in the Divergent movie.

Christina is one of my favorite characters in the Divergent series. She goes through so much in this series and it just makes her stronger. She doesn't let all the stuff that happens to her turn her bitter and my favorite thing about her is how good a friend she is. There is a part near the beginning of Insurgent when she comforts Tris even though they a had a pretty big rift in their friendship, and she does the same thing for Tobias when he's having a really hard time in Allegiant. Both times made me cry. She's a side character, but she's still so important to the series and the growth of the main characters.

My favorite Christina quotes:
"Who cares about pretty? I'm going for noticeable."

"The person you became with her is worth being."

There's my pick! Any parts or quotes with Christina you want to mention? Any characters who you love? Let me know in the comments and have a lovely weekend :)

Waiting on Wednesday: Dangerous Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

****"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event hosted by Jill at the Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.****

My pick this week is:

Dangerous Creatures (Dangerous Creatures, #1)
Dangerous Dream by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Expected Release Date: May 20th, 2014
from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers

A new series returns to the world of Beautiful Creatures. Some loves are cursed...others are dangerous.

Ridley Duchannes will be the first to tell you that she's a bad girl. She's Dark. She's a Siren. You can never trust her, or even yourself when she's around. Lucky for her, Wesley "Link" Lincoln can never seem to remember that; quarter Incubus or not, his heart is Mortal when it comes to Ridley. When Link heads to New York City to start a music career, Ridley goes along for the ride-and she has her own reasons. As if leaving small-town Gatlin for the big city, trying to form a band, and surviving life with a partially reformed Siren isn't hard enough already, Link soon learns he has a price on his head that no Caster or Mortal can ever pay.

Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, the #1 New York Times bestselling coauthors of Beautiful Creatures, are back and casting another magical spell. Their signature mixture of mystery, suspense, and romance, along with a dash of fun and danger, will pull fans in and leave them begging for more.

The Caster Chronicles is one of my favorite series and I was so, so sad when it ended. I also didn't think Ridley and Link's story was over. I was super happy when I found out that it wasn't. I'm so excited to return to this world and the characters that I love and miss. May can't come any sooner!

Top Ten Tuesday (47)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

This weeks topic is Top Ten Books That Will Make You Cry. This was a easy topic for me because if you haven't already noticed I cry at everything. It's bad. Since I'm sure not everyone is as big a baby as me I don't know how many of these will make somebody else cry, but they certainly made me.
  1. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green-This one is sure to make everyone cry, at least a little. It gets the top spot for being the first book ever to make me ugly cry. It's also the one that has made me cry at every sad thing since. It broke me, y'all.
  2. Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare-Every book in this series has brought me to tears at one point, but this book made me cry worse than any other book. Never before have I sobbed every hundred pages. But I still loved it.
  3. Allegiant by Veronica Roth-This is another one that I'm sure made many others cry. I had to put the book down a few times because I couldn't see through the tears. Or breathe. I'm still torn up about it. Not angry, just torn up.
  4. Beautiful Chaos by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl-This gets it's spot because I cried the first time I read it, and then even harder the second time around. One of the worst cliffhangers ever.
  5. Champion by Marie Lu-I read this one last month and oh my word, I cried. So much happened in the last 50 pages that I could barely catch my breath. It was a genius move on Ms. Lu's part and I loved/hated it.
  6. Shades of Earth by Beth Revis-The last 50 or so pages of this book were not very nice. Part of me was like no, the author wouldn't really do that and part of me was like she so would and I was sobbing and it was just evil.
  7. Tiger's Destiny by Colleen Houck-I cried for the same reason as above. If it hadn't been that character I might have been okay. But nope.
  8. The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan-I think the ending of this one is talked about enough that I don't really have to explain myself. When he couldn't reach his sword I just lost it.
  9. Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson-I just read this one and dang. I knew it was going to be sad, but I didn't prepare myself for that. I still don't want to think about it.
  10. If I Stay by Gayle Forman-I didn't ugly cry in this one, but there was definitely tears when Adam gave his speech towards the end.
Bonus! All Our Yesterdays By Cristin Terrell-I didn't cry a ton in this one, but props to the author for making me cry in a first book over a certain character. She writes a killer book.

Those were my picks! Any that you were surprised that I included? Any that I didn't? Let me know and be sure to link you TTT in the comments :)
