First book in the Goddess War series
The Goddess War begins in Antigoddess, the first installment of the new series by acclaimed author of Anna Dressed in Blood, Kendare Blake.
Old Gods never die…
Or so Athena thought. But then the feathers started sprouting beneath her skin, invading her lungs like a strange cancer, and Hermes showed up with a fever eating away his flesh. So much for living a quiet eternity in perpetual health.
Desperately seeking the cause of their slow, miserable deaths, Athena and Hermes travel the world, gathering allies and discovering enemies both new and old. Their search leads them to Cassandra—an ordinary girl who was once an extraordinary prophetess, protected and loved by a god.
These days, Cassandra doesn’t involve herself in the business of gods—in fact, she doesn’t even know they exist. But she could be the key in a war that is only just beginning.
Because Hera, the queen of the gods, has aligned herself with other of the ancient Olympians, who are killing off rivals in an attempt to prolong their own lives. But these anti-gods have become corrupted in their desperation to survive, horrific caricatures of their former glory. Athena will need every advantage she can get, because immortals don’t just flicker out.
Every one of them dies in their own way. Some choke on feathers. Others become monsters. All of them rage against their last breath.
The Goddess War is about to begin.
Is there even words for this book? The only one I can think of is amazing. I've never read something quite like this.
This is a story about the gods. Athena and Hermes are painfully dying. They are determined to find a way to survive. Cassandra hasn't ever been a normal girl. She's reawakened and discovers her life isn't what she thought.
I absolutely adored all the characters. I loved the darker side of Athena. Hermes was very sweet. I loved that they had their godly qualities but seemed very human as well. I also loved how much they worried and cared for each other. I didn't enjoy Cassandra as much as I liked Athena. There wasn't anything wrong with her she just didn't wow me like the others. Now Apollo, has my whole heart. He was easily my favorite character for many reasons. I'm definitely dying to see where these characters go next.
I think it's safe to say this has an epic storyline. It combined the godly world and the average human world perfectly. It was insanely fast paced and action packed. You had no idea where the story was going. I loved all the Greek aspects. I even learned some new stuff. This is definitely a darker read. Overall this has made my expectations for this series through the roof. The wait for the sequel will kill me slowly. If you haven't read this one, I highly recommend!
