Icons by Margaret Stohl Review

Icons (Icons, #1)
Reading Level: Young Adult
Publisher: Little Brown
Source: Conference
First book in the Icons series
Your heart beats only with their permission.
Everything changed on The Day. The day the windows shattered. The day the power stopped. The day Dol's family dropped dead. The day Earth lost a war it didn't know it was fighting.
Since then, Dol has lived a simple life in the countryside -- safe from the shadow of the Icon and its terrifying power. Hiding from the one truth she can't avoid.
She's different. She survived. Why?
When Dol and her best friend, Ro, are captured and taken to the Embassy, off the coast of the sprawling metropolis once known as the City of Angels, they find only more questions. While Ro and fellow hostage Tima rage against their captors, Dol finds herself drawn to Lucas, the Ambassador's privileged son. But the four teens are more alike than they might think, and the timing of their meeting isn't a coincidence. It's a conspiracy.
Within the Icon's reach, Dol, Ro, Tima, and Lucas discover that their uncontrollable emotions -- which they've always thought to be their greatest weaknesses -- may actually be their greatest strengths.
Bestselling author Margaret Stohl delivers the first book in a heart-pounding series set in a haunting new world where four teens must piece together the mysteries of their pasts -- in order to save the future.

Review
I was very impressed by this book. I've seen some mixed reviews so I wasn't sure what to expect. I really enjoyed it! It was very well done.

This tells the story of Dol and Ro. They were living a perfectly normal life until the were captured and taken to the Embassy. They were thrown into the world with Lucas and Tima. Now they must hunt for information and stay alive.

Dol was my favorite out of the four. I loved her personality. I loved that she was always calm and thought things through. I liked her strong side even though it was rare. I liked Ro but I wasn't find of his personality. He was very demanding of Dol. The best part about him was his strength. Lucas I loved so much! He was sweet but still strong. The love triangle hints don't make me happy. Tima was great and I can't wait to learn more about her! I actually can't wait to learn more about all these characters.

I got into this story very quick. I never wanted to put it down. It has a very suspenseful plot. It wasn't loaded with action but there was a good amount. I loved the science and history. We spent the whole book learning new things about the icons and the world. It did take awhile to fully understand everything. The ending seemed very closed so I'm not sure what to expect next. I do have high hopes for a sequel because I really loved this story!
