Review
I'm going to start of saying I was terrified to read this. Just look at the synopsis. Not only that but I had so many people tell me I was going to cry and saw so many reactions. Even though I was worried, this was an amazing ending. It made my expectations look easy.

This concludes Amelia's story. She's not human but she's not a full ghost either. Both the light and the dark want her on their side. Amelia knows she's in for one hell of a ride. She's not sure how much of herself is going to survive.

I think I enjoyed Amelia the most in this. She was so strong. I liked how she didn't give up. I also liked that she was willing to try anything. One thing I love about her personality is how caring she is. She always outs others above herself. She's grown so much and I'm incredibly proud of her. Joshua broke my heart in this. He had it bad. But he tried to stay strong.  He was always there if someone needed him. Plus he's the biggest sweetheart ever. Amelia and Joshua have the most amazing relationship. It hasn't been easy but they made it work. I'm sad to say goodbye!

I think this might just have to be my favorite out of the series. It was beyond amazing. The storyline was unpredictable and action packed. It wasn't incredibly fast but just fast enough. I ended up reading this in one sitting in a few measly hours. It was impossible to put down. I doesn't a good half of the book crying my eyes out. Amelia's story really touched my heart guys! I'm so sad to see it end. It's been an amazing adventure though. If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend checking it out.

The Ghosting of Gods by Cricket Baker Review

Publisher: John Hunt Publishing

Source: Author

Caught in a world on the brink of spiritual evolution, Jesse struggles to understand Elspeth even as frightening contacts from his sister force him to face the secret, shattering meaning of a verse he knows well: Blessed are the poor in ghost.

Review
I'm not going to say this was a bad read because it wasn't. It had some good and some bad. I am going to say that I personally didn't enjoy it very much. It just wasn't for me.

This tells the story of Jesse, Po, Ana Lilly, and Leesel. Leesel has been kidnapped after they are all sucked into this new world. Together they must reduce her and find their way out of this world, filled to the brim with creepy crawly monsters and ghosts.

The characters were very off for me. At times they seemed like adults then they would act like kids. I actually have no idea how old they were but I would guess at like 13. I couldn't really connect with them. Even though they were always together, they didn't work well as a team. They were constantly fighting. One thing I did enjoy about the characters was how complex they were.

What I really didn't like about this book was the storyline. It had way too much going on at all times. We didn't get the chance to connect with the characters before the story for going. Everything was really unique it was just too fast. I eventually lost interest and had to push to finish. Overall this wasn't for me but it was awful. It did have some good aspects to it. If you like action packed ghost stories with a curious set of characters, give this one a shot!

Waiting on Wednesday: Allegiant by Veronica Roth

****"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event hosted by Jill at the Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.****

My pick this week is:

Allegiant (Divergent, #3)
Allegiant by Veronica Roth
Expected publication date: October 22, 2013
from HarperCollins Children's Books

One choice will define you. What if your whole world was a lie?
What if a single revelation—like a single choice—changed everything?
What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?

The explosive conclusion to Veronica Roth’s #1 New York Times bestselling Divergent trilogy reveals the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of readers in Divergent and Insurgent.

Do I really need to explain why I'm waiting on this book? No, probably not, but I will anyways. It's been over a year since I read Insurgent, and I miss the characters so much. So one of the many reasons I'm dying for this book to come out is so I have an excuse to reread the first two, and fall in love with them all over again. With so many dystopian series out there it's hard for one to stand out, but this one does. If Allegiant is as mind-blowingly awesome as I expect it to be, it might become my favorite. We'll see.

What are you waiting on this week? Are you dying for Allegiant, too? Tell me in the comments!

Top Ten Tuesday (23)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of us will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All that's asked is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

This weeks topic is Top Ten Books I've Read So Far In 2013. I haven't read as many books as I would like so this will be kind of hard, but here we go!

In no particular order:
  1. Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare-Okay, maybe this one is number one for a reason. The over a year wait was worth it. I turned the last page in awe, and I'm still thinking about it 3 months later.
  2. Goddess by Josephine Angelini-This was the best ending to this series I could have asked for.
  3. Apollyon by Jennifer L. Armentrout-What kind of top ten list would this be without one of her books on it?
  4. Star Cursed by Jessica Spotswood-I flew through this one and loved it as much, if not more, than the first one.
  5. Lament by Maggie Stiefvater-If it's a Maggie Stiefvater book it's bound to end up on a favorites list at some point.
  6. Ballad by Maggie Siefvater-And the sequel to it will probably show up, too.
  7. Asunder by Jodi Meadows-If this was a list of favorite sequels this would definitely be on it. Like a sequel should be, it was everything the first one was and more. Plus kissing.
  8. Shadows in the Silence by Courtney Allison Moulton-Like the one above all the kissing in this one made it one of my favorite endings to the series. I mean there was other awesome stuff in it, but mainly the kissing.
  9. Shades of Earth by Beth Revis-Amazing ending to and amazing series.
  10. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer-Yay for sequels that are even better than the first book.
There was a lot of books in a series in this list. Hopefully in the second half of the year (can you believe it's already halfway through 2013?!) I'll be able to read a lot of amazing first books, and standalones.

Any recommendations? What books were your top ten? Tell me in the comments!

Blackwood by Gwenda Bond Review

Blackwood
Reading Level: Young Adult
Publisher: Strange Chemistry
Source: Won
Stand Alone
On Roanoke Island, the legend of the 114 people who mysteriously vanished from the Lost Colony hundreds of years ago is just an outdoor drama for the tourists, a story people tell. But when the island faces the sudden disappearance of 114 people now, an unlikely pair of 17-year-olds may be the only hope of bringing them back.
Miranda, a misfit girl from the island’s most infamous family, and Phillips, an exiled teen criminal who hears the voices of the dead, must dodge everyone from federal agents to long-dead alchemists as they work to uncover the secrets of the new Lost Colony. The one thing they can’t dodge is each other.
Blackwood is a dark, witty coming of age story that combines America’s oldest mystery with a thoroughly contemporary romance.

Review
I knew absolutely nothing about this when I started it. For most of the book I wasn't sure what was happening. It did have a unique concept though. And the characters were fabulous.

This is kinda like a retelling of an old legend. I've never heard of the legend but it made for an interesting story. 114 people disappearing, a murder, and the devil all wrapped into one story.

This had a seriously amazing set of main characters. Miranda was so complex. I didn't enjoy her as much as Phillips but it was pretty close. I liked that she was strong and adventurous. She never have up. Phillips was a totally fearless. He was amazing. Even though he was tough he was very sweet too. I loved him with all my heart. I was honestly surprised by how amazingly well done these characters were.

This is one of those books that makes you want to learn what the inspiration was. I'm pretty sure this is based off a legend but I could be wrong. It was such am interesting story, much more than I was expecting. I was pleasantly surprised. It had a super unique story. It was fast paced with a fair share of action. There was only one thing I didn't like. That was once I got to the ending it was terribly hard to keep up. Other than that I thought it was a great read. If you like spooky stories, this one is for you!

Waiting on Wednesday: The Lair by Emily McKay

****"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event hosted by Jill at the Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.****

My pick this week is:
The Lair (The Farm, #2)
The Lair by Emily McKay
Expected publication: November 5th 2013 by Berkley Trade
In the battle against the vampiric Ticks, humanity was slowly but certainly headed for extinction. For months, twin sisters Lily and Mel had been quarantined” with thousands of other young people being harvested for their blood—food for the Ticks. Finally escaping with a few friends, the twins are separated—and must continue the fight on their own . . .
After making it to a resistance base camp in Utah, Lily learned to survive at all costs. But when a Tick attack decimates the fighters, Lily and her pregnant friend, McKenna, decide to make the hard trek north to Canada—and safety.
Meanwhile, Mel is being taught how to survive by the very vampire that turned her. Living without her sister is hard, but dealing with the fact that her autism was cured by the vampire bite is an even bigger challenge.
But when a monstrous betrayal places Lily in mortal danger, Mel must set out to find her, save her, and begin to unravel the empire of destruction that the Ticks have built.

The first book in this series really surprised me! I was really impressed. The ending had a baby cliffhanger. Of course I'm dying to see where this story is going to go!

What are you guys waiting on this week? Leave me links in the comments!

The Farm by Emily McKay Review

The Farm (The Farm, #1)
Reading Level: Young Adult
Publisher: Berkley Trade
Source: Won
First book in The Farm series
Life was different in the Before: before vampires began devouring humans in a swarm across America; before the surviving young people were rounded up and quarantined. These days, we know what those quarantines are—holding pens where human blood is turned into more food for the undead monsters, known as Ticks. Surrounded by electrical fences, most kids try to survive the Farms by turning on each other…
And when trust is a thing of the past, escape is nearly impossible.
Lily and her twin sister Mel have a plan. Though Mel can barely communicate, her autism helps her notice things no one else notices—like the portion of electrical fence that gets turned off every night. Getting across won’t be easy, but as Lily gathers what they need to escape, a familiar face appears out of nowhere, offering to help…
Carter was a schoolmate of Lily’s in the Before. Managing to evade capture until now, he has valuable knowledge of the outside world. But like everyone on the Farm, Carter has his own agenda, and he knows that behind the Ticks is an even more dangerous threat to the human race...

Review
This book shocked me. I wasn't expecting it to be so amazing! It's been awhile since I've read a book quite like this. I think it's safe to say I loved it with all my heart.

This tells the story of Lilly and Mel. Mel is severely autistic but notices things most wouldn't. Lilly has been taking care of the two or them forever. She's trying to find a way off the farm. With the help of an unexpected ally, they escape the farm but end up running for their lives.

Lilly was such a badass. I adored her. She was so incredibly strong and brave. She was so caring. It was so easy to connect with her. I can't wait to continue her story. Mel was a great character as well. I loved how unique she was. It did take some getting used to her voice though. Charter is a boy after my own heart. He too is totally badass. But he's also really sweet and loving. There characters were pretty fabulous and I can't wait to see more of them.

I think this has a super unique storyline. It has vampires and kids on the run with lots of action and suspense. It was super easy to get into the story. It took me no time at all to fall in love with the characters. Overall I think it's safe to say I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I really enjoyed the story. U can't wait to get my hands on the sequel. If you like a good vampire story with a twist, this is perfect for you.

The Vampires Reflection by Shayne Leighton Review

The Vampire's Reflection (Of Light and Darkness #2)
Reading Level: YA/NA
Publisher: Decadent Publishing
Source: Publisher
Second book in the Of Light and Darkness series
*This was gifted to me by author for review*
Months after their brutal victory over Aiden and his hierarchy of Wizards, Charlotte and Valek have returned from Prague to their home in the Bohemian Occult City. However, this time, they are joined by their new band of misfit, magical friends. In the light of day, all seems to be at peace now that the Regime has been toppled, and the coven of rogue monsters has finally found their freedom. But Charlotte soon discovers that much like her adopted Vampire family, she has developed a strange addiction of her own. Her new disease is destroying her from the inside out, and Valek finds himself at a loss as he defies all odds to save her life. Danger continues to lurk around every corner and they realize that their happily-ever-after has not ended so happily after all, in this highly anticipated sequel of the Of Light and Darkness series.

Review
I'm having mixed feelings with this one. It had some good things and some bad. It was awhile ago when I read the first book. I think not remembering much took away from the story and might be why I didn't enjoy it as much as possible.

This tells the story of Valek and Charlotte.  Charlotte has developed an addiction to Valek and his bite. It is slowly killing her. All the while someone is out for revenge and will stop at nothing to get it.

I really like Valek and Charlotte individually but together not so much. Their relationship is kinda off for me. Sometimes I enjoy it sometimes I don't. But, I liked the variety of characters. I liked the bad guys. I liked the secondary characters as well. I wish I wasn't having such mixed feelings about the main chats hers. I know it really took away from the story. I know it's one of the reasons I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have.

Because I didn't remember much I was confused in the beginning. I really enjoyed the storyline though. I thought it was fast paced and action packed. But the pacing was very up and down. It would be fast and then get really slow. The storyline was unpredictable. So this had its good and its bad but I did enjoy it.

Waiting on Wednesday: The House of Hades by Rick Riordon

\

****"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event hosted by Jill at the Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.****

My pick this week is:
The House of Hades (Heroes of Olympus, #4)
The House of Hades by Rick Riordian
Expected publication: October, 8th 2013
        from Hyperion Books

At the conclusion of The Mark of Athena, Annabeth and Percy tumble into a pit leading straight to the Underworld. The other five demigods have to put aside their grief and follow Percy’s instructions to find the mortal side of the Doors of Death. If they can fight their way through the Gaea’s forces, and Percy and Annabeth can survive the House of Hades, then the Seven will be able to seal the Doors both sides and prevent the giants from raising Gaea. But, Leo wonders, if the Doors are sealed, how will Percy and Annabeth be able to escape?

They have no choice. If the demigods don’t succeed, Gaea’s armies will never die. They have no time. In about a month, the Romans will march on Camp Half-Blood. The stakes are higher than ever in this adventure that dives into the depths of Tartarus.

You don't even have to have read any of the books to understand how much I need this book. I still cry sometimes about the last one. Just a little. The cover is gorgeous, but a little too much for my heart.

This weeks topic is Top Ten Beach Reads. There's not a beach close to me, but I think I can manage.

  1. Percy Jackson and the Olympians-Fast and fun with a main character who is the son of the god of the ocean. It's  not exactly a light contemporary read but it's still perfect for the beach.
  2. John Green books- Short but not exactly light. If you don't mind crying in public these are perfect.
  3. Stephanie Perkins books-These books are some of my favorite contemporaries out there. They are so funny and absolutely adorable. They are so addicting you might have to remember to pack sunscreen.
  4. Jessi Kirby books-Some of my other favorite books. Short and sweet and easy to fly through very quickly.
  5. Of Poseidon by Anna Banks-Mermaids and kissing. What else could you want?
  6. Retellings-The perfect way to escape-if you need too.
Those are my picks! Not exactly 10 but some count for more. What did you pick this week?

Goddess by Josephine Angelini Review

Goddess (Starcrossed, #3)
Reading Level: Young Adult
Publisher: Harper Teen
Source: Conference
Third and final book in the Starcrossed series
After accidentally unleashing the gods from their captivity on Olympus, Helen must find a way to re-imprison them without starting a devastating war. But the gods are angry, and their thirst for blood already has a body count.
To make matters worse, the Oracle reveals that a diabolical Tyrant is lurking among them, which drives a wedge between the once-solid group of friends. As the gods use the Scions against one another, Lucas’s life hangs in the balance. Still unsure whether she loves him or Orion, Helen is forced to make a terrifying decision, for war is coming to her shores.
In Josephine Angelini’s compelling conclusion to the masterfully woven Starcrossed trilogy, a goddess must rise above it all to change a destiny that’s been written in the stars. With worlds built just as fast as they crumble, love and war collide in an all-out battle that will leave no question unanswered and no heart untouched.

Review
This series couldn't have had a better ending. It blew me away! I can't believe it's really over. I will hold this series close to my heart forever.

This concludes Helen's story. She has accidentally released the gods from captivity. Lets just say their running wild. As Helen's powers continue to grow she must find a way to contain the gods before she has a war on her hands. She also has a tough choice to make, you can't have two guys forever.

Helen was kinda badass I'm this. Her powers were incredible. I loved how she remained strong even though her world was falling apart. She was a perfect goddess. Now onto the boys. I will say Orion is a good guy! He's stuck with Helen through it all. Lucas I've loved since the start. Lucas played a bigger role than Orion. Some of the things that happened shocked me. I was incredibly happy Helen finally made her choice. I want to take a second to mention the amazing secondary characters. I've loved seeing everyone grow so much and really stick together. I'm really gonna miss these guys :(.

So this book kinda tore my heart out at moments. I loved the addition of the gods. I loved all the action and suspense. I loved the world building. I loved Everyland so much. But that final battle was not okay! U mean it was insanely well done but, my heart could not handle it! It made me scream and cry and throw things all over the place. But it was needed and fit the story perfectly. Overall this was a fabulous ending not that I'm surprised at all! It couldn't have been better. I can't wait to see what else this author has in store. If you haven't read this series, your missing out and I highly recommend.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Distance Between Us by Kasie West

****"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event hosted by Jill at the Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.****

My pick this week is:
The Distance Between Us
The Distance Between Us by Kasie West
Expected publication: July 2nd 2013 by Harper Teen
Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she’s pretty sure they’re only good for one thing—spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother’s shop.
So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he’s oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he’s one of the first people who actually gets her, she’s smart enough to know his interest won’t last. Because if there’s one thing she’s learned from her mother’s warnings, it’s that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she's beginning to enjoy his company.
She knows her mom can’t find out—she wouldn’t approve. She’d much rather Caymen hang out with the local rocker who hasn’t been raised by money. But just when Xander’s attention and loyalty are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn’t a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she’d ever realized. And that Xander’s not the only one she should’ve been worried about.

So I've never read a book by this author. That's really sad! I've heard such amazing things about Pivot Point and this one already that I know I need to get my hands on this one. It sounds amazing and that cover is adorable!

What are you guys waiting on this week? Leave me links in the comments!

Apollyon by Jennifer L. Armentrout Review

Apollyon (Covenant, #4)
Reading Level: Young Adult
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Source: Bought
Fourth book in the Covenant series
Fate isn’t something to mess with… and now, neither is Alex.
Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back.
The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.
Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself.

Review
My body was so ready for this book. Lets just say high expectations doesn't even begin to cover it. Lets also say that this made them look easy.

With the way Deity left off I was a little scared to read this. Alex's story continues. She has just become the Apollyon and formed a bond with Seth. The world around her is in ruins and she has to fight her way out of the I love Seth fanclub.

It's honestly surprising how these characters never cease to get more amazing. Alex is so badass it's not even funny. I love her to death. Aiden has my entire heart in his hands forever. One thing I really enjoyed about Aiden in this one was that he never gave up on Alex. I know what he was going through wasn't easy but he loves her so much that he never lost hope. Seth is Seth. I'm not sure how I feel about him honestly. I have hope he can be a good guy at some point in his life but if he doesn't I won't really care. So we shall see.

I'm going to start off by saying this story never slows. It's completely unpredictable. It was faced paced with tons of action. The characters were as amazing as ever. I loved seeing some of the Greek gods. I loved all the suspense. I loved all the steamy moments! Everything was perfect. I couldn't have imagined it better. There was a baby cliffhanger that left me dying for the next book. If you guys haven't read this series, your missing out!
